Closed-cell foam insulation is a dense spray foam that insulates and seals air leaks in the same layer. In Pueblo it's the right call for tight spots where you need a lot of insulation in very little space, like the framing over a crawl space or the ceiling of a room over the garage.
Most people call us because a floor stays cold, the room over the garage won't hold heat, or the power bill keeps climbing and the drafts seem to come from somewhere low in the house. The price comes down to how much foam the job takes, which is the area times the thickness. It also depends on how easy the space is to reach and whether old, wet or mouse-filled insulation has to come out first, which we handle as insulation removal. The schedule depends on conditions in the space, because temperature, humidity and moisture on the surfaces all have to be right before foam goes on, so the date can move a little. It also depends on finding a day you can be away from home. We look at the space before we put a price on anything, so the estimate is where you get your own number.
How we install closed-cell foam insulation
We start by looking at the whole space. Closed-cell costs more, so we only use it where the extra insulation per inch earns its keep, like the rim joist, which is the band of framing sitting on your foundation, along with crawl space walls and shallow garage ceilings. Before we spray a frame wall, we talk through how that wall will dry out, because closed-cell at the usual thickness slows moisture enough that the wall can't dry well to the outside anymore. On the day, our crew clears the area, covers whatever shouldn't get foam and checks that the surfaces are dry. Then we spray in passes up to the finished thickness. Closed-cell counts as an air barrier once it's 1.5 inches thick or more, against 5.5 inches for open-cell, so our quote lists the finished thickness and you know what you're paying for. We trim, clean up and check the edges and corners last, because thin coverage at the edges is where drafts sneak back in.
Closed-cell isn't the answer everywhere. In a roomy attic, sealing the gaps and topping up the loose fill usually wins on price. The exception is when your ductwork lives up there, and that's when foam starts to make sense. Where a wall has room for a thicker layer, open-cell foam insulation is often the better buy. Property managers call us for commercial insulation too, and closed-cell earns its place in those buildings in the same tight spots it does in a house.
Closed-cell foam insulation permits and houses in Pueblo
Inside Pueblo and Boone city limits, permits go through the regional building department, SoCoBD. A permit there is generally needed whenever you build or change the structure of an existing building. Addresses in unincorporated Pueblo County, including Pueblo West and Colorado City, apply to the Pueblo County Planning and Development Building Division instead. Whether a foam job needs a permit depends on the work, and Pueblo also has a newer energy code in effect, so we don't guess. Before we start, we find out which office covers your address, and if the job needs a permit, we pull it and line up the inspection.
Around Pueblo we crawl into plenty of older houses where the rim joist has nothing on it but cobwebs. We also see newer homes with a bonus room over the garage that never quite keeps up. Those are exactly the spots closed-cell is made for, and we find the same houses on jobs in Colorado Springs.
Why call us for closed-cell foam
I look at every job myself
I come out to see the space before anyone prices it, and I'm on site for most of the install while our crew does the work. The person who measured your rim joists is usually the one checking the foam on them.
Doing this work since 2017
I taught myself the trade from books and maker guides, then learned the rest on my knees in attics and crawl spaces, which is a good way to remember a lesson. After nine years, we're best known for sealing a house before we insulate it.
Licensed and fully insured, every job
We're licensed and fully insured. Contractors working in the regional building department's area have to be licensed or registered with it, with a few exceptions, so it's fair to ask any foam crew about theirs.
A straight answer, even "wait"
I'll tell you what I find up there in plain words, including the mouse that overstayed. I'd rather tell you a job should wait or happen in a different order than do it fast and wrong.

Frequently asked questions
Is closed-cell or open-cell spray foam better for my house?
Closed-cell is better when you want the most insulation in a thin layer, and open-cell is better when you want a quieter room. Closed-cell is about twice as energy efficient per inch, which is part of why it costs more, while open-cell is much better at blocking sound. Tell us which matters more and we'll show you where each one fits.
How much does closed-cell spray foam insulation cost in Pueblo, CO?
Closed-cell spray foam in Pueblo usually costs about $0.90 to $1.30 per board foot, which is one square foot of foam one inch thick. Your total depends on how much area gets foam, how thick it goes and what prep the space needs, so we look before we price it.
How long do I have to stay out of the house after spray foam insulation?
Plan to be out of the house during the install and for at least 24 hours after, which is what consumer safety guidance recommends. That goes for the kids and pets too, so line up a place to stay before the work date. We go over the safety steps with you when we schedule.
Is spray foam safe in a house once it's installed?
The main concern is the install itself, because isocyanates and other foam chemicals can cause health effects during installation and for a while afterward. That's why the time away and the crew's safety plan matter. Both foam types are also combustible, so they can burn, and we talk through where the foam is going before the date.
What causes cold floors over a crawl space?
Usually it's outside air leaking in around the rim joist and through gaps where pipes and wires pass, with little or no insulation to slow it down. More insulation won't fix a draft on its own, so the gaps need sealing first. Closed-cell on the rim joist does both at once, which is why it's our usual pick there.
Can you spray foam over old insulation in my attic or crawl space?
Not when the old insulation is wet or full of droppings, because foam over it just seals the problem in. We pull out what's bad and spray onto clean, dry surfaces. We'll show you what we find before anyone decides what stays.
Other foam and insulation work
Open-cell foam insulation
For walls and rooflines with depth to fill, or a room you'd like quieter, open-cell is the lighter foam worth pricing out.
Commercial insulation
If you manage a shop, office or rental that runs cold or costs too much to heat, we'll look at the whole building and price the right mix.
