Can you insulate my walls without opening them up?

At Precision Pueblo Spray Foam Insulation, wall insulation in Pueblo means filling the empty cavities in your outside walls without tearing them open. On a house that's already built, we drill small holes, dense pack each cavity by blowing loose fill in tight so it can't settle, and patch the holes so the wall goes back to looking like a wall.

Most wall calls start with a room that never warms up, a wall that's cold to the touch in January or a power bill that climbs every winter. In plenty of older houses there's nothing in those walls but air, and the attic insulation can only do so much while the walls stay empty. The price moves with how much wall we're filling, what your siding is made of, how the walls are built and whether shelves or cabinets are in the way, and the schedule mostly turns on your siding plans and whether a permit is needed. You'll get your own number after I've seen the walls in person, because a guess from the driveway isn't worth much.

How we do wall insulation, start to finish

We start by figuring out what each wall is made of, what's already in it and which side we can get into, because your siding usually decides whether the holes go outside or in. If what's in there is wet or full of mouse nests, we deal with that first, since new fill on top of an old problem just hides it and the mouse doesn't deserve the upgrade. Then our crew covers plants and floors, drills into each cavity between the studs, dense packs it until it won't take any more, and plugs and patches every hole before we clean up. If new siding is already on the way, that's the easiest time to fill the walls, and the questions below cover how that works.

Full walls still leak air at outlets, top plates and the joints where the walls meet the attic and floor, so we often pair the wall work with air sealing services to close those gaps. If your complaint is cold floors more than cold walls, basement insulation on the foundation usually helps more than anything we put upstairs.

What changes wall insulation in Pueblo

Who issues a permit depends on where your house sits. Inside Pueblo city limits and in Boone it's the Southern Colorado Building Department, and outside them it's the Pueblo County Building Division, generally for work that modifies a building's structure. That doesn't settle whether drilling and filling your walls needs one, so before we start we find out which office covers your address, since Pueblo, the county and the Colorado Springs side don't all use the same one. If the job needs a permit, we pull it and line up the inspection.

A lot of older Pueblo houses have plaster inside and a mix of wood, stucco and brick outside, sometimes all three after a few additions, so I look at every wall before we pick where to drill. Newer houses in Pueblo West and up in Colorado Springs usually came with something in the walls, so the calls there are more often about an addition or the room over the garage that got finished without any.

Why call us for wall insulation

  • I look at your walls myself

I come out to see the job before anyone quotes it, and I'm on site for most of the work our install crew does. You talk to the same person about the price, the holes and the patching.

  • Insulating Pueblo houses since 2017

I started this business in 2017, taught myself from books and maker guides, and learned the rest on my knees in attics and crawl spaces. That's a good way to remember which shortcuts don't work.

  • Licensed and insured for county work

We're licensed and fully insured. Pueblo County makes it unlawful to do or hire out construction work without the right license or registration, so asking any contractor to show theirs protects you too.

  • We say plainly what we find

If the job should wait or happen in a different order, I'll tell you before we drill anything. I'd rather lose the job than drill your walls twice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does wall insulation cost in Pueblo?

Across the US, blown-in wall insulation usually costs about $4 to $4.50 per square foot installed. That's a national figure, not a Pueblo quote, so for your house the estimate is the number to go by.

Does Pueblo County offer free wall insulation for eligible homes?

Pueblo County's weatherization program may install exterior wall insulation, and its services are free to all eligible customers. If you rent, the landlord may be required to take part in a furnace or refrigerator replacement or electrical repairs, decided case by case, so it's worth checking before you hire anyone, us included.

What is the best way to insulate existing walls without removing drywall?

Dense-packed cellulose or fiberglass is the favored method for closed walls in existing homes, because packing it tight keeps it from settling and gives you consistent insulating value top to bottom. It also fills the cavity completely, which helps slow the air moving through the wall.

Will you drill holes inside or outside my house to insulate the walls?

Your siding usually decides, and the county's own weatherization crews drill from outside unless the exterior can't be drilled, then go through the inside walls instead. Outside, removed siding goes back on carefully and the holes are plugged and sealed, with any water barrier behind the siding repaired so rain stays out. Inside, the holes are plugged, patched and painted to closely match the wall.

How do I insulate my walls if I'm replacing the siding?

Schedule the insulation for the gap between the old siding coming off and the new siding going on. The U.S. Department of Energy advises that when siding comes off an uninsulated wood-frame wall, holes go into the sheathing, the wood panels under the siding, and insulation gets blown in before the new siding goes up. Call us once your siding contractor gives you dates.

Can you blow insulation into the walls of a brick house in Pueblo?

Usually not with cellulose, because the cellulose makers' trade association doesn't recommend it for filling masonry wall cavities or walls below grade. On a brick or block house, I first figure out whether the walls are solid masonry or brick over a wood frame, and that decides what we can fill and with what.

  • Air sealing services

If a filled wall still feels drafty near outlets and trim, closing the leaks around them is the next fix.

  • Basement insulation

Cold floors upstairs often start with bare foundation walls downstairs, and that's where this work begins.
