What does commercial insulation cover for a Pueblo building?

Commercial insulation in Pueblo, CO covers two jobs: the roof and walls of metal buildings, and the pipes, ducts, tanks and equipment that move heat or cold through the building. Done right, the space holds its temperature and the mechanical system stops losing energy on the way.

Most of the property managers who call us have a shop that's an icebox in January or an office that bakes under a bare metal roof by June. The price turns on the building's size, how deep the framing runs, which system it can take and whether old insulation has to come out first. The schedule turns on your operating hours, the permit question and the season. We look at the space before we put a number on anything.

How we handle commercial insulation, start to finish

I start by walking the building with you, and on a metal building the first thing I look at is the framing, since how deep it runs decides how much insulation fits. Then we check what's already up there, because new material laid over wet or mouse-filled insulation just keeps the problem around. Next comes air sealing, which means closing the gaps at roof seams, doors and penetrations, so the new insulation isn't fighting a draft. Only then do we install the system and wrap the pipes and ducts that need it. Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates, so I'll recommend it where you need that seal, but for a plain storage building a faced or liner system usually does the job for less. In shops that weld or cut, we talk about covering any exposed foam before we spray a single pass.

Some buildings need moisture control as much as insulation. Offices and older commercial spaces with a crawl space usually need a crawl space vapor barrier so ground moisture stays out of the framing. Heated rooms built inside a metal shell often call for vapor barrier installation so condensation doesn't collect in the walls.

Commercial insulation permits and codes in Pueblo

Who handles the permit depends on where your building sits. Inside the city, the Southern Colorado Building Department issues building permits. Pueblo West and the rest of unincorporated Pueblo County now go to the county, and the Colorado Springs side doesn't use the same office either. Whether a job that's only insulation needs a permit isn't something I'll guess at. Before we start, we find out which office covers your address, and if the job needs a permit, we pull it and line up the inspection. If you'd rather ask the department yourself, its number is 719-543-0002.

The energy rules split along the same line. Inside the city, the energy code applies as written. The county uses its own amended version and adds the existing building code for work on older buildings, so a retrofit in the county can answer to different rules than the same job inside the city. We're based in Pueblo, and we see the same mix of older metal shops and newer warehouses on jobs in Pueblo West and Colorado Springs, so we check which rules apply before we pick a system.

Why call us for commercial insulation

  • I look at your building myself

I come out to walk the job before there's any price on the table, and our install crew does the work with me on site for most of it. The person who measured your framing is usually the one watching it get insulated.

  • Sealing first, since 2017

We've been in business since 2017, and we're best known for sealing a building before we insulate it. You also get a plain account of what we found, even when I think a job should wait or go in a different order.

  • Licensed and fully insured, ask to see it

We're licensed and fully insured. Pueblo County's code requires the right license or registration for construction work and makes hiring someone without one unlawful, so ask every bidder for proof.

Frequently asked questions

What insulation system helps a metal building meet energy code?

An insulation trade group points to filled cavity systems, either long-tab banded or liner, and says they're quickly becoming a necessity under today's stricter energy codes. Thicker systems with a higher R-value, the measure of how well insulation slows heat, need deeper purlins, the beams under a metal roof, which is why we check the framing first. Ask each bidder which of those systems suits your building and why.

Is exposed spray foam a fire risk in a shop where we weld?

Yes. Unprotected spray foam can ignite and spread flame across its surface in a flash-over when it meets a welding arc, a cutting torch, red-hot metal or even a trash fire. That's why we settle the covering question before we spray, and you should ask any bidder how exposed foam will be protected.

How do I compare commercial insulation bids for a metal building?

Start by asking whether the faced fiberglass in each quote carries NIA certification, which assures it meets 100% of its stated R-value after the facing is laminated on. Then compare which system each bidder proposes and whether they actually looked at your framing depth, since a quote that never checked the purlins is a guess.

Does insulating a metal building cut down on noise?

Yes. Metal building insulation greatly reduces noise, keeping outside sound out and soaking up the echo inside. In a shop full of compressors or a bare warehouse, that's often the first thing people notice once the crew packs up.

How much does commercial insulation cost in Pueblo?

We give you a price after we've walked the building, because its size, its framing depth and the system it can take set most of the cost. Insulating pipes and ducts adds to it, and so do old material that has to come out, lift work under tall ceilings and protecting foam in welding areas. Call (719) 601-8052 and we'll come take a look.

How long does it take to insulate a metal building?

The timing comes down to the size of the building, the system and when a crew can work inside without stopping your business. Weather matters too, because some adhesives, tapes, mastics and coatings have to go on above a minimum temperature, so in the cold months we plan the work around the temperature on site. I'll lay out the schedule at the estimate.

  • Crawl space vapor barrier

Older offices and storefronts built over a crawl space can pull damp air up from the dirt, and a barrier on the ground stops it at the source.

  • Vapor barrier installation

If you're finishing heated rooms inside a metal building, a vapor barrier keeps moisture from condensing in the new walls.
